About
History Benha is the Capital of Qalubiya government the history mentioned that the old name of Benha was (ber-naha) and the name (banaho) and derived from it came the Arabic name (Benha). Since Benha province was constructed it became the capital in 1913, finally the administration turned into governorate and Benha became the capital of Qalubiya in 1960. The most important attractions in Benha are Benha university which includes twelve faculties whether theoretical practical ones. Also the new bridge of Benha was constructed outside the inhabited areas. The bridge length is five kilometres and width is twenty-six meters. The most important industries are: Benha was considered to be the central of electronics in Egypt it has two huge factories both for electronics and computer hard ware: Toshiba - Katron - military factory for electronics supplies.
The national feast of the governorate: The governorate celebrate annually the national feast on the thirtieth of August which was the same date opening El- Kanater El- Khairia in 1868 which is one of the advantages of the governorate as tourists and visitors from the whole Republic come to watch the beautiful natural scenery, the parks and orchards which occupy about 500 feeding of the city.
The most important things which the governorate is famous for: The governorate is famous for its agriculture production from crops, fruit and vegetables. The most important crops are maize, cotton, wheat, citrus, banana, apricot and kinds of vegetables. Moreover, the governorate has the biggest industrial complex in Shoubra EL- Kheima where there a lot of factories for instance, spinning factories, Electrical cables factories, plastic, cars and oil refinery factories plus food industries and packing and metallurgical industries. Besides, the industrial region in Abo Zaabel city which famous for fertilizers and chemical industries, etc… And the governorate is constructing an integral industrial region in El-Khanka city.
Government History Pharaonic Age: Kalioopya in the Pharaonic age was standing in the eights region of the lower Egypt`s regions ,and its capital was called (hat / hery/ ait) which means : Middle Earth Capital ,because it stands in the south part of Delta , so ,its name in Greek was (atrips) (atrip otel atrip).One of the most famous citizen of kliopya at pharaonic age was Aminhoteb because of his kinship ,he became the ruler of the ancient Egypt at the time of Aminhoteb the third who munificent (OR)( rewarded) him by letting him build a Funereal temple for himself like the rest of the kings beside the pharaoh’s temple and even under his coffin , and it decorated with kingly engraves (or)(sculptures)
The Ptolemy age and the Roman age: kaliopya at the Ptolemy age and the Roman age was (a capital for) A trips city and a capital for one of the east delta's governorates, it stand at the north east of Benha city at Atrip highland .It was an agricultural , industrial and commercial centre .
Islamic Age: Kalioopya in the Islamic Age dependent to Sharkia Region ,And at 1351 a.c & 857 hejry , the sultan al-naser mohamed ebn kalawon was issued a decree that separated it from sharkia and consider it a region in the name of kaliopya works towards kalioop city which became its capital at the end . At 1527 a.c , 933 hejery it called the state of kaliopya then it called the mission of kaliopya and at 1833 a.c it called the department of kaliopya and they made Benha city its basis (or)(ground) and finally at 1960 a.c it called the governorate of kaliopya , and Benha city its capital .
The modern age: At the modern age kaliopya became such a big citadel of agricultural and industrial production and by companying with Cairo and Giza governorates and called the big Cairo region.
Benha University:
Benha faculty of medicine is established in 1979 and includes: 1) Lecture halls: There are 2 main lecture halls. Each of them is provided with data show system overhead, sound systems, electric viewing screen. Also they are air – conditioned. 2) The Library: The library opens from 9: 4 am at winter, 9:2 am at summer. The main visitors of the library include: 1- Post graduates to prepare their MD & PHD & doing researches. 2- Academic year's students because the library contains some educational materials. 3) Medical Museums: The faculty contains 3 museums: 1- Pathology museum. 2- Forensic medicine & toxicology museum 3- Anatomy museum. 4) Staff Offices:
Clinical training Resources General frame of hospitals: The Faculty contains the following hospitals. 1- Hospital of internal medicine. It was built on 1993 2- Hospital of Surgery. It was built on 1987 3- Hospital of Emergency. It was built on 1987 4- Hospital of ophthalmology. It was built on 1981
Emergency Hospital has the following units: 1- General Surgery 2- Orthopedic 3- Special Surgery (cerebero neurosurgery, heart) 4- Obstetrics & Gynecology 5- Internal Medicine 6- Accident Unit
Information Technology Information center equipped by 30 computers & high speed internet connection Research facilities The main research facility in the faculty is the Medical Education center. It was opened on August 2004.
Location & Environment Qalubiya Governorate is located in the Nile east region near the head of the Delta. It is barred from the south by both Cairo and Giza governorates. Regarding the special location of governorate it is considered the meeting point of the main transport lines between the northern governorates. The total area of the governorate is estimated at 1001.09 km2. The cultivated area is about 192952 Acres which are 810 km which equals 81% of total area. The Qalubiya governorate consists of 7 local units for provinces and towns and two towns, two districts, 46 rural local units, 195 affiliated and 901 fiefs and small villages.
Population: The governorate population is calculated on 1/1/2000 by about (3586385) with about 1852119 males and 1734267 females. The urban citizens are estimated at 1456626 and the rural citizens are estimated as 2129759 citizens.

About Practice
Hospital Condition Working Days: from Sunday to Thursday – 5 hours Daily.
Hospital Teaching Departments For Professional exchange:
You will be placed in one of the following departments: General surgery, Topical Medicine. We will try to match the placement with one of your choices in the AF as much as possible.
For Research exchange:
You will be placed in our valid project this summer “Congenital hypertrophic pyloric stenosis (CHPS)” The contact persons will pick you up every day from the hostel to the hospital at 10:00 a.m. and they will show you your supervisor doctor and they will accompany you in the hospital in almost of your scientific course.
Terms & Duration You are expected to attend your clinical rotation in the department for 4 weeks; only calendar months are accepted at least 5 hours from Sunday to Thursday. However this is variable and is at the discretion of the concerned departments. Failing to attend at least 2/3 of the rotation may cause the termination of the bilateral contract.

Required Equipments - Please bring your white coat and stethoscope also a reflex hammer for neurology clerkships. - Health insurance is required (A copy shall be attached with the application documents, or sent to NEO/LEO before arrival for the clerkship). - Please bring your international students ID (ISIC) it is of great benefit especially in social programs. - Smart formal clothes are required for your clerkship in the hospital it's NOT accepted to wear neither short clothes nor strange ones! Try to be formal as much as you can. - For females, it's preferred to cover your body as much as you can – long slaves are preferred, tight bodies and short skirts are not acceptable - Remember you are in different culture and you have to respect it!

Accommodation Conditions lodging is near the university and are free (on bilateral basis) From 4years ago benha hosting incoming students in Scouting hotel it is new hotel which had built just 5years ago and it consider the first hotel in benha it contain a lot of facilities like:- - rooms with internal bathroom - fans & air condition - fridge - TV with cable - Garden - it is inside benha stadium (so u could do different sport activities) - around hotel u will find (markets-net cafes-restaurants-cleaning shops-phone services- all your needs u will find) - You will stay in a room/complex that may accommodate students of the same sex. Friends /relatives/pets are not welcome. - In case you are coming as a couple and you want to share a room. Sorry! We couldn't accept couples!!! - If you are going to extend your stay after your clerkship ends it must be on your own expenses.
Distance between Dormitory & the Hospital Its 4min waking or 1min by car from the hospital and the transportation in Benha is organized by the contact persons by using "service" (car for 7 passengers) and it's free on bilateral basis
Internet & Telephone - Around hotel u will find net cafes - (+2) is an international prefix if you dial from Egyptian mobile or Phone booth don't dial the (+2) - It's better to buy an Egyptian mobile number since it's so cheap it's only will cost you just 30 pounds – approximately 5 Euros you could make and receive international and Local calls. Rechargeable cards are in either 50 – 100 -200 pounds
Boarding - Free daily meal provided by the hospital in the hospital working days. - The contact person will accompany you to the cafeteria and show you how to get your free meal.

Transportation
Transportation to the Dormitory Students have to find the way to the hostel on their own. To come to Benha, take bus from Cairo International Airport to Cairo train station at Ramses Square [bus station just in front of arrival hall Terminal 1] it’ll take about 25 minute, Then by train from Cairo train station to Benha City, which is 50 Km away and it’ll take about 40 min (The contact person will wait you in Benha at your arrival time).
Important Information Currency: The currency of Egypt is called the Pound (pl. Pounds). Pound banknotes are issued in the following denominations: 0.25, 0.50, 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Pounds. Smaller values are issued as coins (piaster’s) with 1 Pound = 100 Piaster’s.
Currency exchange facilities are available in most banks, hotels and airports and operate normal business hours.
Credit cards are accepted at most restaurants and shops, the most widely used being MasterCard, Visa and American Express.

Certification: We will give you your certificate on the last day of your clerkship or on your day of departure and it will be signed and stamped by the supervisor doctor and the LEO.
